Corkk delivers English wines, chosen by Kent Master of Wine Clive Barlow, direct to your door
Want to discover new English wines to try but have no idea which vineyards are worth a punt? With a Master of Wine behind all its monthly choices, Kent-based wine subscription service Corkk is a good place to start.
The creation of Jonathan Piggins and Clive Barlow – one of only 400 Masters of Wine in the world – Corkk aims is to share a growing love of English wine, while supporting the small winemakers, which produce excellent wines.
“These wines aren’t to be glugged – they are there to be savoured, they are to be thought about, there is a whole story about them,” says co-founder Piggins. “And that’s what we’re trying to do at Corkk, we’re trying to introduce consumers to some of the best examples of English wine and showcase how good they actually are.”
How it works
Each month Barlow, who is Chairman of Education at the world-renowned Institute of Masters of Wine, Panel Chair for the International Wine Challenge and Senior Judge for the Decanter Magazine competition (he knows his stuff), picks six ‘hard-to-find’ wines from independent vineyards across England.
The wine boxes are then delivered to the doors of subscribers along, along expert tasting notes and information about the stories behind the vineyards and makers responsible for each of the wines.
Buyers can choose from still, sparkling or mixed wines, in cases of three, six or 12 and whether or not they want to receive them monthly, quarterly or twice a year. And if you’re not quite ready to commit to a subscription then you can simply pick your own choices from the online shop.
Corkk also creates bespoke boxes and recently collaborated with The Wine Show – presented by Matthew Goode, Matthew Rhys and Joe Fattorini, among others – on its English Box, which included Kingscote Bacchus, Simpsons Chardonnay and Oxney Organic Sparkling Rosé.
