The co-founder of Cider is Wine talks to us about a new sector in the market
Welcome back to the fourth series of The English Wine Diaries!
On this week’s episode, I welcome Alistair Morrell, who is the co-founder of Cider is Wine, the quality mark for ciders, perries and fruit wines fermented exclusively from the fruit and not from concentrate.
Using their extensive experience in the wine industry, Alistair and his business partner, Roddy Kane, have defined a new sector in the market for quality ciders entrenched firmly in the belief that these artisan drinks, made from apples, pears and other fruits, deserve our appreciation just as much as grape wines.
Initially established in 2018, Cider is Wine now has 24 producer members, an online shop and wholesale business because, as Alistair and Roddy say, life is ‘just too short to drink ordinary cider!’
We talk about the future of cider making in the UK, the best ciders to pair with food and the cider makers who have been scooping awards at international wine competitions.
